Some of the physical monthly meetings have now been resumed, but according to Government guidelines on social distancing due to the Coronavirus infection.

Further information about future plans are available from the Secretary. By now all paid-up Branch members should receive regular messages about forthcoming meetings.

However, some meetings may need to be held using the Zoom application. This platform allows users to hold visual meetings on-line between interested parties, whether they are single or multiple. The instigator, who may hold a licence, will send an invite to all interested participants with a Meeting identification and password. Meetings will be held at pre-arranged times and only fully paid-up Branch members, or invited guests, (who have an email address), will be invited to participate.

We hold our regular monthly meetings (September through to May) at St. Lawrence Church Hall in Brown’s Lane, Effingham, KT24 5NL.

Please see the Monthly Meetings Venue page for more details.

The Surrey Flydressers’ Guild is the Surrey Branch of The Fly Dressers’ Guild – an organisation which aims to promote fly-tying for all. There are no entry qualifications – you do not have to be an expert fly-tier. An interest in flies, fly-tying or fly-fishing is all that is required.

We have meetings once a month between September and the following May. Well known fly-dressers, game-fishers and others related to fishing, are invited to give talks, instruction and help with a variety of fly-tying and fishing topics. The meetings represent an ideal opportunity to get together with like-minded people and share and learn from each other’s experiences.

We also hold separate fly tying classes at Byfleet Village Hall on several evenings a month.  Fly tiers of all abilities are welcome.

We also organise occasional fishing outings (organised by Members) throughout the year, details of which are often publicised at the Monthly meetings.

A Group regularly fishes a local stillwater for Carp in the summer months.

If you are interested in flies, fly-tying or fly-fishing – or are not sure if you might be – do come to one of our talks or tying evenings and see whether you would like to join the Surrey Flydresser’s Guild (we are a friendly bunch!). Just introduce yourself when you arrive – the first meeting is totally free and without obligation.  Do not worry if you have no tools or materials, both can be provided at the fly tying lessons.
